The Beginning of Zoology

Picking Apologia has been a blessing ...

After talking to another homeschooling friend and listening to her rave about Apologia, we elected that for our science curriculum. AND WE LOVE IT!! It is written in such terms that are easy for the boys to understand - and me too :)

Apologia is a christian based curriculum, which I love. We are starting with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day. So far in the past few weeks, Kollin has learned about what zoology is, what a zoologists does, the taxonomy process, how flying creatures are able to fly, what a habitat is and about extinction ... And we are only in Lesson 2!
Here are a few of our activities we have done so far:

Here we are classifying our animals, discussing vertebrates and invertebrates.

This was a flight experiment from our Apologia book. We made the two flight devices, learned about how to conduct our experiment (hypothesis, variables, etc.) and headed outside. I threw, Kruz and Kolt measured and Kollin noted the measurements for each one. They had a blast and learned exactly what it meant to be aerodynamic :)
