TOS Review - Flowering Baby

What is Flowering Baby?

I would like to think of Flowering Baby as a wonderful reminder of everything your
preschooler is actually capable of learning and participating in before starting kindergarten.

This early childhood curriculum is divided into five volumes: ages birth to one, ages one to two, ages two to three, ages three to four and ages four to five. The activities within these yearly programs are based on a combination of many different teaching styles. Martha, the creator of this curriculum, combined Classical, Charlotte Mason and Unit study approaches to develop each volume. Along with this, she studied many homeschooling books before beginning this adventure. To read more about her story and how she began, click here.

What We Received and How We Used It:

For this review we received the following:

The curriculum we recived came via CD-rom with a downloadable copy in order to print each page. This disc contained 20 days of activities per month. Volume Three starts in the 25th month of your child's life and ends in the 36th month.

Along with daily activities, the disc also inlcuded a list of books, songs, simple supplies and a few recipes needed to complete this year.

Kruz is 2 1/2 years old and thrives most days when he is able to participate with school. Often, I try to include an art project, picture book or activity that will include him in our school hours. Sad to say, but not much has really been just for him

This curriculum changed that completely.

Kruz is my early riser. When I say early riser, I mean earlier-than-the-sun-comes-up kind of early riser. Before Flowering Baby, his mornings consisted of a couple cartoons, breakfast and maybe some time on his tablet. Not so anymore ...

I originally tried this curriculum during our school hours, but I quickly noticed how much of my attention was taken by my older two children. After a week or so, I decided to try working with Kruz first thing in the morning. Success!

We used the small amount of quiet time in the morning to sing together; our ABC song, Itsy Bitsy Spider and Wheels on the Bus were a few that were included. We counted cheerios, read books and sorted socks.

Flowering Baby must've boosted my preschooling skills! After starting these activities with him, I was inspied at how much Kruz enjoyed the tasks. I found myself singing with him while making lunch and playing "I Spy" in the car a lot more. We included colors and shapes in our daily lingo with him. It seems as though the one day of activities will go throughout the entire day ... this is a good thing :)

Although we have not yet got to further activities, we are looking forward to tasks such as cutting with scissors, listening to different composers and learning letter sounds. There is so much more to do with him and I am excited about watching the light bulbs go off.

My Opinion:

Flowering Baby is a wonderful start when you just don't know where to begin. The layout of the disc was perfectly done and very easy to follow. Before reveiwing this curriculum, Kruz and I often only sang our ABC song and only read a handful of books. Having the list of songs and books was great and so easy to get to!

Most of the activities given are pretty simple and could be thought of on your own. However, to be given the option of not having to plan them is heaven sent. Flowering Baby has opened the doorway for Kruz' preschooling to begin and I couldn't be happier at how well this has worked out so far. I plan to purchase the volumes following this year to continue his preschooling years.

I was swiftly reminded at just how much Kruz is capable of. Flowering Baby started with an introduction of very encouraging words and a reminder of how much his two year old brain is growing right now. I have been truly inspired to work with him more. Not only has this curriculum began his life long love of learning, it has also created much more one on one time with him.
